Fear of Foreigners

This project takes it's title from the words of evolutionary biologist Dr. Stephen Jay Gould, 'How slippery the slope between love of the familiar and hatred of the foreigner.'

I found these words profound during Brexit and the scapegoating of migrants, and wished to utilise nature as a means  of exploring this concept. This project is an allegory of the wonders of immigration, a celebration of nature filling the void that globalism creates by bringing vibrancy to the abandoned and desolate.

These ink drawings were digitally coloured, utilising symbolism to bring different time periods together to show the history that is not always evident in environments.
